Status: Open until filled Job Description This is a highly skilled emergency medical position.
The AEMT provides on-the scene emergency medical care and provides the first steps of medical care to injured persons.
The AEMT must be thoroughly familiar with the Kansas Division of Emergency Management regulations as well as the State of Kansas Statutes Annotated Chapter 65, Articles 6100, et seq.

The AEMT must possess superb public relations skills, superb organizational skills; must also possess high public relations skill levels which may be utilized under dire and stressful situations.
The AEMT must possess superb Emotional Intelligence traits; be capable of making life and death decisions at a moment’s notice and when under a great deal of stress, as those decisions may impact the citizens of Seward County.
Position Requirements Education High School Diploma or GED required Work Experience Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in Emergency Medical Services System, as a EMT or AEMT or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job; must have in depth knowledge of the principles of organization development, management and supervision; must have general knowledge of the structure, functions, operations, policies and procedures of public sector administration Computer Skills Experience in using Microsoft Office, e-mail and other relevant modern office equipment Licenses/Certifications Must possess valid State of Kansas Driver’s License or be able to possess within thirty (30) days of hire, without record of suspension or revocation in any state; no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
Must attain and maintain valid state license as a AEMT.
Must attain and maintain valid Kansas AEMT Certification, AHA, BLS, ACLS and PALS Provider Certification, NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800; may be required to attain and maintain other certifications as related to position or for specialized areas of assignment.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Essential Functions as AEMT Assists Emergency Medical Services Director and Paramedics with the: Coordination and monitoring of EMS shift/crew, facilities Interaction with federal, state and local agencies Supports policies, procedures, standards, rules and regulations and reviews for appropriate and/or necessary changes Maintains appropriate records and reports Delivers quality patient care based on current State of Kansas Board of EMS Rules/Regulations, accepted standards of care and protocols approved Provides leadership and mentoring to subordinates Provides training to staff, new hire and personnel on orientation Reviews reports for completeness and accuracy and provides feedback to employees Evaluates individual performance and provides recommendations for review, training, remediation or personal reward Maintains a quality assurance review of ambulance calls as part of the Emergency Medical Services Department’s mandate and for the Department’s quality improvement program; identifies need(s) for training Responds on ambulance calls as a AEMT Coordinates unit check-off, cleaning an disinfection of units and equipment and completion of daily duties Evaluates need for crisis intervention in time of critical incident stress Ensures safety of EMS responders on medical and trauma scenes Ensures that the expected and established standards of patient care are met Supports the leadership of the Seward County Emergency Medical Services Director Additional Responsibilities Speaks to residents, business owners, students and community groups, performing public education using emergency medical services demonstrations and presentations In the event of a declared state of emergency, employees in this classification may be called to work during days or hours other than those for which they are regularly scheduled.

The AEMT will be required to do complicated tasks, sit for an hour or more, speak, hear, stand, walk, balance, stoop, squat, bend, and/or kneel.
While performing this job, the employee will be required to use hands to finger movements, handle or feel, talk or hear.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color and peripheral vision and depth perception and an ability to adjust focus The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Additional Information Work Hours Shift rotation work of either 24 Hours or 12 Hours Depending on assigned rotation – Full Time; hours may vary Evening/Week-Ends Rotational Work Environment General indoor and outdoor environment; will work outside on a regular basis and will be exposed to smoke, bodily fluids, noise, dangerous animals, hazards of emergency driving; hazards associated with traffic control and working in and near traffic; natural and man-made disasters and hazardous materials; wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, carcinogenic dusts, toxic or caustic chemicals; blood borne pathogens; outside weather conditions of extreme cold and/or heat; risk of electrical shock and/or explosions, radiation and vibration.
The noise level in this work environment can range from moderate to high, dependent upon the situation.
