Status: Open until filled Job Description Seward County Fire Department is recruiting a Firefighter / Emergency Medical Responder position.
This is a fulltime, entry level positions are operational positions assigned to serve the County primarily in emergency response and mitigation efforts to save lives and protect property.
These positions work under supervision to perform a variety of critical fire department functions including: firefighting, rescue, emergency medical response, patient care, fire safety inspections, preplans and public education.
Seward County Fire Department operates as 1 Battalion with 4 Engines, 4 Attacks, 3 Water Tankers, 2 Ladder Trucks, 3 Fire Stations, and has 10 Paid Call Firefighters.
The Department serves 642 square miles and a population of 23,462.
The Department serves the unincorporated areas of Seward County (Excluding the City of Liberal), The City of Kismet, Arkalon Park, Arkalon Ethanol Facility, River Valley Utilities, and USD 483.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities These positions work under supervision to perform a variety of critical fire department functions including: firefighting, rescue, emergency medical response, patient care, fire safety inspections, preplans and public education.
Candidates should be able to perform all functions associated with fire suppression, EMS, rescue, fire prevention, and station/equipment maintenance activities as assigned by the department.
Performance Measurement Candidates must be 18 years of age at time of appointment and certified by the State of Kansas as a minimum Emergency Medical Responder or higher at time of hire date to be considered for appointment.
Continued recertification is required throughout employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ideal candidates should have basic knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and equipment employed in modern firefighting; fire hazards and fire prevention techniques; and the application of fire records to fire prevention, fire protection, and Fire/EMS report writing.
Candidates should also have the ability to communication effectively and portray a positive image of the organization to the general public and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the organization and partner agencies.
Ideal candidates will possess certifications for Firefighter Level I, Emergency Medical Responder, Haz Mat Operations, supplemented by formal training in firefighting techniques; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
