Duties: Plans, develops, implements, administers, and evaluates the Infection Prevention program.
Sets and meets infection prevention specific goals and participates in the selection and completion of department goals.
Facilitates initiatives to reduce and prevent healthcare-acquired and community-acquired infections.
Develops, implements and updates infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
Oversees the activities of the Hospital’s Infection Control Committee; serves on the Patient Safety Team as the facility representative for infection.
Adheres to, maintains, and complies with regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, FDA, EAP, CMS, CDPHE, etc.

Performs an ongoing assessment to identify the risks for the acquisition and transmission of infectious agents.
This includes assessment of the patient population, the organizations infection prevention and control data and the care, as well as treatment and services provided.
Assists in the follow-up of potential exposures to staff, patients and visitors, when necessary.
Monitors epidemiological significant issues among employees (in conjunction with occupational health) and patient population in comparison to the community with a concern to entity or facility preparedness.
Develops systems for identifying, reporting, investigating and controlling infections/communicable diseases and maintains a database of infections and communicable diseases.
Oversees and consults on cleaning, low and high level disinfection and sterilization processes throughout the facility.
Assures that there are preventive, surveillance, and control procedures relating to sterilization, disinfection, and cleaning practices in all departments.
Report to the appropriate committees such as surgical medical staff when period checks are done, what was done and what was found.
Prior to remodeling or construction, will provide an infection control risk assessment (ICRA) and ongoing surveillance of project.
Provides periodic review of the monitoring and maintenance of the water system done by Facilities with this review being reported to Environment of Care Committee (EOC) or other committees when appropriate.
Uses an epidemiological approach to perform surveillance for endemic and epidemic infection control related concerns, including the detection, evaluation and tracking of infections that are healthcare associated.
Prepares reports and coordinates follow-up.
Maintains professional certification through the Certified Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC).
Continue to obtain knowledge of current epidemiology and infectious diseases, surveillance strategies, and prevention and control initiatives.
Remain current with the latest information and guidelines from agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) or Certified Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC).
Skills: Disseminates pertinent information to clinical departments and medical staff in timely fashion.
Educates hospital leaders and associates regarding infection prevention and control principles and practices.
Designs and implements educational presentations that facilitate the understanding and implementation of infection control and prevention standards in the organization.
Serves as internal consultant for all departments on issues of infection prevention and control, including administration, leaders, physicians and associates.
Serves as a resource to the community (police, fire departments, EMS, nursing schools and community groups) regarding infection prevention and control issues and practices.
Provides comprehensive reports to the Medical Executive Committee and the Community Board on infection issues within the facility.
Gathers information and presents written reports with statistical data, trends, outcome measurements and QA effectiveness to appropriate committee or personnel.
Maintains logs of infections and communicable diseases.
Compiles statistical information on healthcare associated infections, such as targeted surgical site infections, central line associated infections, and ventilator associated pneumonia when appropriate to the entity.
Reports ”reportable” diseases to health department and other committees as appropriate.
Reports the annual Infection Prevention assessment, including healthcare-acquired infection statistics, to all appropriate committees including the Medical Staff Committees.
Reports and tracks stats to include comparing to county and state statistics, when appropriate to the entity.
Completes an annual risk assessment for TB and reports findings to the appropriate committees per OSHA guideline.
Facilitate annual review of the infection prevention program.
Five (5) years of clinical or related experience.
Three (3) years of infection prevention and control, preferred.
Two (2) years of previous leadership or project management experience, preferred.
Experience in clinical operations and/or experience working in performance improvement or quality management areas, preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education or experience- Required Degree in Nursing or other clinical-related field- Preferred MSN, MPH, or other related Master’s degree- Preferred CIC - Required Float Requirements: -Floating may be required to any Centura location within sixty (60) miles of the original assignment location or Centura-identified “float zone”.
-Float assignments may include duties outside of original assignment job requirements (including skill set) in accordance with Centura policy Certifications & Licenses:CICInfection Controlthe Certified Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC).
