*CANCER CENTER OF KANSAS, PA* *POSITION:* * Registered Nurse *SCOPE:* Accountable for coordinating and delivering services in the Satellite office to ensure high quality care to all of our patients.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* * Depending upon site location and number of employees, job duties may vary: * Administers chemotherapy using aseptic technique according to OSHA guidelines.
* Assures correct medication dosage form, strength, and quantity as per physician order in iKnowMed.
* Consulting physicians regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management * Communicates skillfully and professionally with patients and their families, physicians, co-workers, other health care personnel, and community resource representatives.
Has received and follows HIPAA guidelines to ensure confidentiality.
* Documents all nursing assessments, nursing interventions, and patient therapies in electronic medical record.
* Uses LYNX system to dispense therapy drugs.
Documents drug usage in Lynx and matches to electronic charting.
* Provides psychological support to patients and families.
* Assures appropriate consent has been obtained prior to treatment and or procedures.
* Has current BLS certificate and is able to follows medical emergency policy and procedure.
* Has knowledge of insurance reimbursement issues, and follows policies and procedures for preauthorization of insurance when necessary.
* Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites or central lines in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
* Provides ongoing education for patients and family regarding disease status, chemotherapy treatments, preventative care measures, symptom management, and community resources.
* Obtains Good Clinical Practice Training Certificate.
Provides requested documentation to Research Staff, facilitating placement of patients on protocol and ongoing follow-up visits.
*Facilitates dosage modifications by:* * Assessing patient * Assessing lab * Consulting protocol or treatment plan * Calculating doses *OFFICE:* * Orders and maintains an adequate stock of office supplies.
* Facilitates flow of information between Satellite and Wichita CCK.
* Answers phone calls in relation to patient questions and relays pertinent information to appropriate department or physician.
* Takes new patient referral calls and schedules appointment.
* Advises patients on symptom control and medications, according to the standing orders.
* Monitors lab values and makes appropriate interventions for abnormalities.
* Using ERX module in IKM, orders medication and refills according to physician orders.
* Completes disability, FMLA, and cancer insurance information forms for patients.
* Has received training and demonstrates understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines as set forth by the FDA.
* Provides indigent drug programs and initiates services when indicated.
Keeps accurate records on patients participating in indigent drug program and assists with continued service.
*OFFICE VISITS:* * Mails patient information with office appointment to each new patient.
* Prepares charts for office visits, including insurance referrals and obtains ordered test results.
Collects necessary information for Meaningful Use and documents in the electronic medical record.
* Arranges for necessary x-ray films to be available if indicated.
* Processes new patient forms, including sending a copy of insurance cards and Assignment of Benefits/Financial Responsibilities to Business Office in Wichita.
* Assists physician with office visits.
* Assists physician with procedures, including bone marrows, spinal taps, and paracentesis (assists with signing consent, doing procedure and home care instructions).
* After office visit, schedules return office visit, lab and testing ordered and chemotherapy as ordered.
*MISCELLANEOUS:* * Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
* Maintains compliance with OSHA standards.
* Completes a minimum of 15 contact hours per year of continuing education to maintain competence.
* Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
* Maintains clean, safe, and organized work environment.
* Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
* Performs other duties as requested by management or physicians.
* Participates in quality improvement activities.
*ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:* *INTERRELATIONSHIPS:* * The Nurse must maintain a good working relationship with all employees.
He/she must be able to communicate directly to the Team Leader and/or Director of Nursing regarding any areas of concern in his/her department.

*EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:* * Degree in Nursing preferred.
* Minimum of 1-year experience preferred.
* Experience with venipuncture technique.
*CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS*: * Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Kansas.
* Current CPR required *SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES*: None.
